Sarah Brennan, Behavior Assistant

Sarah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Psychology from Kean University, where she graduated with honors, as well as an Associate’s degree in Psychology from Ocean County College. Her academic training focused on criminal behavior, psychological assessment, and the legal system, providing a strong foundation in both research and applied psychological concepts. During her studies, Sarah designed and conducted an experimental research project examining the effects of sleep deprivation on cognitive functioning, including memory, attention, and decision-making. Through this work, she gained hands-on experience with research design, statistical analysis using SPSS, ethical research practices, and presenting findings to academic peers and faculty.

Professionally, Sarah has developed extensive leadership and interpersonal skills through several years in the service industry. As a Floor Manager at Captain’s Inn, she oversees staff in a high-volume environment, organizes workloads strategically, and resolves operational and customer concerns with professionalism and composure. She previously served as General Manager at Breaker’s Kitchen & Tap, where she managed front-of-house operations, coordinated scheduling, facilitated communication among diverse staff members, handled conflict resolution, and maintained accurate records of business operations. These roles strengthened her ability to problem-solve efficiently, lead teams effectively, and maintain strong customer satisfaction in fast-paced environments.

In addition to her professional roles, Sarah has meaningful experience supporting youth and families. Through a Work Life Experience Support program in partnership with Lacey Township High School, she provides direct workplace support to high school students on the autism spectrum. In this role, she assists students with restaurant tasks, models workplace expectations such as communication and teamwork, and helps foster independence in a safe and inclusive environment while collaborating with program staff. She has also provided full-time childcare and remote learning support, supervising elementary-age children during virtual schooling, assisting with academic tasks, and maintaining structured routines that encouraged focus and learning.

Sarah’s background reflects a strong commitment to communication, ethical decision-making, and effective problem solving. She has additional training in TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures), certifying her to responsibly serve and manage alcohol service within hospitality settings. Outside of her formal education and professional work, Sarah brings eight years of experience in improvisational theatre, an experience that has strengthened her adaptability, creativity, and ability to connect authentically with others. She is passionate about building positive relationships, supporting emotional regulation, and creating safe, engaging environments where individuals feel supported and empowered to grow. In her free time, Sarah enjoys hiking, listening to music, spending time outdoors, and sharing creative and meaningful moments with friends and family.
