Alizah Allen, LAC

Alizah (pronounced Ah-lee-zah) (she/her) graduated Cum Laude from the University of Delaware with a B.A. in Psychology, along with minors in Coaching Science and Theatre. She later earned both her M.A. and Ed.M. in Psychological Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University. A perpetual student, Alizah is currently working toward her LPC while pursuing training in child-specific modalities. She is also an active member of APA Division 47: Society for Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology, where she combines her background as a child athlete and competitive figure skater with her passion for helping others.

Alizah’s professional experience has spanned a variety of settings. She interned at CUNY’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where she supported traditional and nontraditional students with academic, personal, and career counseling. She also worked closely with faculty as a teaching assistant, designing syllabi, grading assignments, and even leading lectures. In addition, she has contributed to research at Teachers College on social justice issues, publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals. Outside of academia, Alizah taught figure skating for many years, working with children at all levels—from those stepping onto the ice for the first time to competitive skaters refining their artistry and performance. Most recently, she volunteered at her daughter’s school library, engaging first and second graders in reading and literacy activities while also serving as a room coordinator for Pre-K, helping enrich the school community through events and special activities.

Although much of her focus has been on children and adolescents, Alizah also values working with the adults in their lives, and she feels equally comfortable supporting parents and guardians in fostering their children’s growth. Her counseling style emphasizes empathetic engagement, active listening, and highlighting client strengths to build meaningful therapeutic alliances. After prioritizing family life in recent years, she is excited to reinitiate her professional career and expand her expertise in evidence-based therapeutic practices.

Outside of her work, Alizah embraces her “geeky” side as a passionate fan of science fiction and fantasy. She enjoys playing board games and roleplaying games, and when the season allows, she loves attending Renaissance Fairs with her husband and their young daughter. At home, she can often be found crocheting, baking, cooking, or working on puzzles. For Alizah, personal creativity and professional dedication are deeply connected, fueling her enthusiasm for growth, connection, and helping others thrive.
